The Career of Biometrics

The issue of measuring using automated methods of recognizing people’s biological, that is anatomical and physiological, or their behavioral characteristics constitutes the career called Biometrics. This issue of recognition verifies that one can recognize using a special machine one’s face or iris, and be able to identify a particular person. The process of verification suggests that the biometric system attempts to confirm one’s claimed identity by matching the submitted sample against one or more previously registered templates. Identification suggests that the biometric system searches its database for a reference matching the submitted biometric sample. A biometric is collected and compared to all the samples in the database. The process of identification may be closed-set, where the person is known to exist in the database, or open-set where the system determines if the person is existent in the database. The process of biometrics can be used in many areas of life. In the National Security, automated methods are capable of rapidly determining an individual’s true identity, previously used identities, and past activities. It can also be used in Homeland Security and Law Enforcement, where in the United States of America; technologies are used to secure the US, while facilitating legitimate trade and movement of people within and without its borders; and to identify criminals in the civilian law enforcement environment. It is used in the administration of people, processes and other technologies in the Enterprise and E-Government services. For personal information and business transactions, the biometrics system ensures that business plans meet customer demands for service anytime, from any location, and by means of many communication devices. When you go to a biometrics machine and present your information, it is captured and processed, an outstanding feature extracted from it, then a template is created for it and stored.
